For a brief period of time, this car started as a 1988 944s. It was imported by Al Holbert Porsche as a “vehicle equipped for showroom competition with the SCCA”. The cars were basically stock 944 automobiles with option M 220 which is a locking differential. They were also equipped without airbags and undercoating” There were 8 cars with these specs , 7 of which had consecutive vin numbers. This one is WPOAA094XJN450170.
Five or six of these cars were purchased by Bob Akin for his Akin-White Racing School as seen in 2 of the pictures. In 1992 this car was bought by Charles Coker of Hartsville SC and sent to Dave Whites (of Akin-White Racing School) shop and converted to a IMSA Firehawk Series spec 944 S2 with a new front end and a 3.0 litre motor. Charles Coker and Dave White raced this car in the 1993 IMSA Firehawk Series with many podium finishes. The video below is a TV show from 1993 in Sebring that features the car (3rd place podium finish) and an interview with the late Dave White.
